Italy - Tuscany

With its capital of Florence Tuscany is well known for its wines most famous of which is the Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino and Vino Noile di Montepulciano.

The primary grape for the reds is the Sangiovesi whereas the whites are made from Vernaccia. Tuscany is also well known for its Desert Wine Vin Santo.

There are 29 Denomiazioni di Origine Controllate (DOC) area and 7 Denominazioni di Origine Controllate e Garantit (DOCG). In the 1970's a new class of wines emerged know as the Super Tuscans.  These were wines made outside the regulatory DOC/DOCG area but are consider of high quality and command high prices.
