Domaine des Charmilles Sancerre
Description
Grapes: Sauvignon Blanc
A dry style Sancerre with floral and nettle aromas, quince and apple of the palate, held together by a tight mineral structure.
Domaine des Charmilles
Charmilles is a 10 hectare family run estate based near Chavignol. The blend of their white Sancerre is put together from various different base wins that are all vinified slightly different, according to which part of the vineyard they come from. The vineyards terroir is primarily made up of a chalky clay soil but there is also a high proportion of silex or flint, producing a more mineral, tauter wine.
About a fifth of the vineyard is planted in Pinot Noir from which they make a very good rosé. This is a blend rosé, where the juice is drained off the skins after 24 hours cold maceration.
